Privacy Policy

IWantToPractice LLC ("IWantToPractice," "we," "us," or "our") operates Muzie, the online music-education platform available at muzie.live (including the application at app.muzie.live) and, during our migration period, the legacy application at muzie.studio (together, the "Service"). We care about your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you entrust to us.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in our Terms of Service.

By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Information we collect

a) Information you give us

• Account and profile: name, email address, password, and role (teacher, student, or studio admin), plus profile details you add. Student accounts are created with a teacher code that links the student to their teacher or studio (see Section 5).
• Guest participants: someone joining a lesson by invitation link without an account provides a display name and, optionally, an email address.
• Studio and lesson content: materials you upload or create: assignments, notes, files, sheet music, messages, whiteboard content, poll and question responses, and lesson recordings and clips (see Section 3).
• Payments: when you subscribe, our payment processor Stripe collects and processes your payment card details directly: card information goes from your browser to Stripe and never touches our servers, and we do not store any card data (not even the last four digits; when we display them we fetch them from Stripe at that moment). We store only billing status information such as your plan, subscription status, and renewal date. Stripe's handling of your data is governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
• Communications: messages you send us (for example, support requests) and their contents.

b) Information we collect automatically

• Log and device data: IP address, browser type, operating system, pages viewed, and timestamps, in standard server logs.
• Connection data: when you join a live lesson, we process your IP address and connection details to establish the audio/video connection, and your browser contacts an IP-geolocation service to determine your approximate region for connection routing.
• Error reports: if something breaks in the app, your browser sends a report to our own servers (we deliberately use no third-party error-tracking service) containing the error message, the page path (never the query string), your browser's user-agent string, and your IP address.
• Usage data: features used and actions taken in the Service.
• Cookies: see Section 8.

We use no third-party analytics, advertising, session-recording, or tracking services of any kind. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no data shared with ad networks. We do not buy or receive personal information from data brokers.

c) Information from others

If a teacher or studio invites you, they give us your email address to send the invitation. If another user shares content with you or adds you to a studio, chat, or lesson, we associate that shared content with your account.

3. Lesson recordings and transcription

Recording is a core feature of Muzie, so we want to be specific about it:

• Lessons are recorded only when a participant starts a recording. Recording is not automatic. When recording starts, every participant's client is notified and a recording indicator is displayed for the duration.
• What is captured: the audio and video of each participant, including shared screen content, together with lesson chat where applicable. By remaining in a lesson while it is being recorded, you consent to being recorded.
• Transcription happens on our own servers. Speech-to-text runs on machines we operate: your voice audio and video are never sent to any third-party AI service.
• Storage: recordings, transcripts, and lesson summaries are stored in access-controlled Amazon Web Services (AWS) storage in the United States.
• Teachers and their students can access recordings and transcripts of their own lessons through the Library.

4. AI features and what they share

Muzie includes AI-assisted features (available on paid plans). Audio and video never leave our infrastructure; some text does, as described below. We send only what each feature needs, and our AI providers are engaged as service providers. We use their business/API services, which under their terms may not use your content to train their models. We never sell your content or use it for advertising.

AI-generated outputs (summaries, insights, sentiment indicators) are stored with the associated lesson so you can view them later. If you do not want AI features applied to your lessons, contact your teacher or studio (who control recording and AI settings for their lessons) or user.support@muzie.live.

5. Children's privacy

Muzie is used in music-education settings, and some students are children.

• Student accounts exist only in connection with a teacher or studio. A student account can be created only with a teacher code, either entered during signup or received in an email invitation from a teacher or studio. Students cannot use the Service independently of a teacher or studio relationship, and student accounts are always free.
• Consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), where a teacher or studio uses Muzie for an educational purpose, we rely on that teacher or studio to obtain any consent required from parents for the collection of a student's information, for the use and benefit of the educational program and for no other purpose. Teachers and studios who provide a teacher code to, or invite, a student under 13 are responsible for first obtaining any required parental consent.
• We collect only the information reasonably necessary for a student to participate: name, email, password, lesson content, and practice activity.
• We do not serve advertising of any kind, and we do not sell anyone's personal information, children's included.
• A parent, teacher, or studio admin can review a student's information, ask us to delete it, and refuse further collection by contacting user.support@muzie.live.

If you believe a child has provided us personal information without the required consent, contact user.support@muzie.live and we will delete it.

6. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

• provide, operate, and maintain the Service and its features (including recordings, transcription, and the AI features described above);
• create and manage accounts and studios;
• process subscriptions and payments (via Stripe);
• provide customer support and respond to your requests;
• send transactional messages (invitations, lesson links, scheduling emails, billing and security notices), which you cannot opt out of while you have an account;
• keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms; and
• comply with our legal obligations.

We do not currently send marketing emails. If we introduce them, they will be opt-in or carry a clear unsubscribe link, and this policy will be updated.

Legal bases (GDPR/UK GDPR)

7. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising of any kind. We share information only as follows:

• Within your studio or lessons. Your teacher and studio admins can see information appropriate to running the studio (your name, lessons, assignments, recordings of your lessons, and practice activity). Content you post in a lesson, chat, or shared file is visible to its participants.
• Service providers (sub-processors). We use the following third parties to run the Service. Each may access personal information only to perform services for us:

• Legal and safety. We may disclose information to comply with law, a subpoena, or similar process; to enforce our Terms; to protect the rights, safety, or property of IWantToPractice, our users, or others; or to investigate fraud.
• Business transfers. If IWantToPractice is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that deal. We will notify you of any change in ownership or use of your personal information.
• With your consent. We share information with other third parties when you direct us to.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

We use only strictly necessary cookies, the kind required for secure sign-in. We set no analytics, advertising, or preference cookies, which is why the Service shows no cookie banner.

Interface preferences (theme, font size, and similar) are stored locally in your browser and never sent to us. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking the cookies above will prevent sign-in from working.

9. International data transfers

We are based in the United States, and we (and our service providers) process your information in the U.S., where data-protection laws may differ from those of your country. Where we transfer personal data from the EU/UK, we rely on our providers' Standard Contractual Clauses and equivalent safeguards in their data-processing agreements.

10. How long we keep your information

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Lesson recordings, transcripts, and AI outputs are retained so you and your teacher or studio can access them, until they are deleted by you or your teacher/studio or you ask us to delete them. We also retain information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, billing records for tax purposes), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Text sent to our AI providers for the features in Section 4 (for example rolling transcript excerpts for live insights and AI Assistant queries) is retained by that provider, OpenAI or xAI, for up to 30 days under its API terms for abuse monitoring and then deleted; our AI providers do not use it to train their models.

11. How we protect your information

• All traffic to the Service is encrypted in transit with TLS, and live lesson audio and video is carried over encrypted WebRTC (DTLS-SRTP) connections.
• Live lesson media is processed on our servers to provide the group-lesson, recording, and transcription features. It is not end-to-end encrypted.
• Chat messages are additionally encrypted at the application layer before database storage.
• Passwords are stored hashed; refresh credentials are stored hashed server-side, are rotated on every use, and are held in HttpOnly cookies unreachable by page scripts.
• Access to production systems is restricted and logged.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you have questions, or wish to report a vulnerability, email user.support@muzie.live.

12. Your rights and choices

Access and update. You can review and update much of your information in your profile settings, or by contacting us.

Deletion. You can ask us to delete your account and associated content (including recordings and transcripts of your lessons, subject to other participants' rights in shared lessons) by emailing user.support@muzie.live. We will act on verified requests within the time required by applicable law.

EU/UK (GDPR) rights. If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent (without affecting prior processing). You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA) rights. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know, access, correct, and delete your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is no "Do Not Sell or Share" to opt out of. You may use an authorized agent to submit requests.

How to exercise your rights. Email user.support@muzie.live. We will verify your identity before acting on a request.

13. Third-party links

The Service may link to third-party sites we do not control. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies; we encourage you to read them.

14. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting a notice on the Service and/or by email before the change takes effect. Please review this page periodically.
