The origin

In 2019, Sam and Karl Reti, a father-son duo with backgrounds in technology and music education, set out to build an "Uber for music teachers." The idea was simple: an online marketplace where students could find and book lessons with local instructors by the minute.

Within two weeks of launching, they heard something unexpected from teachers: they didn't want help finding new students. They wanted better tools to teach their existing students online.

The pivot

That feedback changed everything. Instead of building a marketplace, Sam and Karl pivoted to building the platform teachers were actually asking for, one designed from the ground up around how music gets taught.

Generic video tools like Zoom and FaceTime were never built for music. They compress audio, add latency, and have none of the specialized tools a music lesson requires. Muzie was built to solve all of that, with high-fidelity audio, interactive notation whiteboard, MIDI instruments, practice tracking, scheduling, and AI-powered lesson tools.

Where we are today

What started with a single teacher in Boston has grown to 30,000+ users across 90+ countries. Over 300,000 lessons have been taught on Muzie, and more than 150,000 practice sessions have been tracked.

Muzie is still family-owned, still musician-built, and still driven by the same belief: music educators deserve tools built specifically for them, not adapted from business software.
